2026 Honorees

  • Physician Leadership Award

    Devorah Segal, MD PhD, Pediatric Neuro-oncology

    Dr. Devorah Segal earned her MD and PhD in Neuroscience at Icahn Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics and pediatric neurology training at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology at NYU Langone Medical Center. She spent several years practicing general child neurology and neurogenetics at Weill Cornell, including helping lead a research neurogenetics clinics. She is now a pediatric neurologist and neuro-oncologist at NYU Langone, where she is associate director of the Neurofibromatosis Center. She treats patients of all ages with neurofibromatosis and schwannomatosis and leads several clinical trials treating pediatric brain tumors, neurofibromatosis, and other neuro-genetic disorders.

    Mentoring Award

    Rachel Offenbacher, MD, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology

    Rachel Offenbacher, MD, a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer. She received her Medical Degree from SUNY Downstate after completing the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education (a 7 year BS/MD program at CUNY). She completed her residency and fellowship at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She was recruited to lead a translation sarcoma research lab. One of her areas of focus is investigating the effect of difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) on Ewing sarcoma and osteosarcoma metastasis. This work provides the scientific rationale for a clinical trial where she serves as Principal Investigator.

Lusia Knoll Tuition Scholarship

The  Lusia Knoll Scholarship is a $5,000 award to a Jewish female matriculated medical student who has been a JOWMA member for greater than 6 months and serves as a role model to the Orthodox community. 

This scholarship was created to award a medical student who has positively influenced women in the Orthodox community as well as provide financial assistance. Awardee will be announced publicly at the JOWMA 2026 annual conference on January 4th. (Supporting documentation may be requested to help us finalize a decision.) 

*Acceptance of this award is contingent on participating in person at the annual conference in January 2026 in NYC.*

The Rachel Traube Childcare Scholarship is a $5,000 award to a Jewish female medical student, resident, or fellow who has children, has been a JOWMA member for greater than 6 months, and has contributed to JOWMA’s mission. JOWMA understands the challenges women face raising children while training to be a physician, which may be compounded by financial stressors. 

This scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to a Jewish female physician trainee who has volunteered their time to JOWMA. Awardee will be announced publicly at the JOWMA 2026 annual conference on January 4th. (Supporting documentation may be requested to help us finalize a decision).
